From Sheriff Scott Berry: This past Thursday, December 10th, Sheriff’s investigators and a GBI agent responded to North Oconee High School to assist with an incident at the school that resulted in a lockdown of the school as a precautionary measure. School and law enforcement officials determined that there was no immediate threat to the school, and the lockdown was lifted. A person of interest was identified that same day, and investigators continued to work the case. Ulti mately, evidence convincingly linked the person of interest to the incident. A juvenile complaint for terroristic threats and disrupting a school has been filed. Due to the fact that the suspect is juvenile, their identity cannot be disclosed. Furthermore, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act prohibit the disclosure of school disciplinary records. I do think it is incumbent upon the store to deny entry to any elderly or otherwise customer who they know is going to start shoplifting, or at least follow them around with three loss prevention officers until they send the person out of the store.
