Congratulations to Athens Academy and North Oconee High School football teams on their playoff wins

Given all the shock and dismay over the Oconee County High School softball coach's sleazy and reprehensible behavior with one of his recent former players , I am glad there is something positive to write about this week. After rain and thunderstorms delayed kick off for an hour, the Titans of North Oconee and the Spartans of Athens Academy made the home folks proud with victories in the opening rounds of the Georgia High School Association football playoffs last night. I hope both teams go all the way to the Georgia Dome and win, but each week will become increasingly difficult. Also this season you have to make it all the way to the Finals for the trip to the Dome (instead of the semifinals, where Athens Academy made it the last two years). I feel sorry for the Oconee County HS Warriors quarterback Zach Mettenberger in their opening round loss at Gainesville but he will be enrolled at UGA soon enough and finally be surrounded by talent equal to his on his side of the ball. Also ...

Contribute Today! Dear Dan, I wanted you to know that the 11th Circuit in Atlanta will hear my appeal on December 9th. The hearing will begin at 9:00 A.M. My case may not be the first case to be heard but we are confident it will be over before noon. As you know the 11th Circuit Court let me out of prison pending the outcome of my appeal, saying that there were "substantial questions of law and fact likely to result in a reversal." While we are hopeful, please say a special prayer that the 11th Circuit will rule favorably and that this horribl...

Open letter to Paul Broun from Sally Adair of Oglethorpe County

Image
Wow, I am watching the Republican party implode every day in new ways I could never imagine. This is a letter to our Congressman from a constituent in the 10th District of Georgia. Will all this increase the turnout on either side of the aisle? Of course I think it will help the Democratic candidates of Jim Powell and Jim Martin. Three full time Obama staffers (two moved in since the General Election) are in Athens alone so let's see what we can get done. I think the Republican Party have provided a once in a lifetime opportunity here so we damn sure need to take full advantage of it. Keep talking about Paul Broun. I think there were four letters to the editor today and Jay Hamilton of Oconee County wrote a great one yesterday in the Athens Banner-Herald. The Oconee Enterprise wrote a very good story about Carl McGrath, Barb Eza and Patricia Priest volunteer efforts for the Obama campaign in Oconee County in different ways. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton could be another great c...

What did Saxby Just Say??

John McCain criticized Taxby Shameless back in 2002 when the Georgia Republican ran advertising comparing Osama Bin Laden and US war hero and then incumbent Senator Max Cleland, but now McCain and Chambliss are campaigning together in Smyrna today. Saxby Shameless Update - RUNOFF DECEMBER 2 - Dear Friends, Just as John McCain arrives to campaign for Saxby Shameless for the runoff election, Saxby has done it again. He has proved once again just how shameless he really is. In an interview with Hannity and Colmes on FoxNews, Saxby was asked about his attacks on Max Cleland in 2002 and he actually defended them. Here's what was said on No...

John Walsh, Jr. will stay in office in Watkinsville

Watkinsville City Council member John Walsh asked forgiveness at the onset of the City Council meeting. He said he will stay in office until the end of his term instead of resigning from office following a recent DUI charge. The following is a brief snippet of his statement from the start of the meeting Wednesday in Watkinsville. Walsh was arrested for DUI a few weeks back at the intersection of Norton Road and Simonton Bridge Road inside the city limits. He appeared generally remorseful at the meeting during his statement. The Mayor Jim Luken echoed his sentiments and commented on the seriousness of his charges. Otherwise the Watkinsville City Council meeting went pretty well with a signage fee waived during the Mayor's comments section. Two restaurants were scheduled for renewal of their beer and wine pouring license, but only Mirko's owner Mirko Digacomantonio appeared and received his renewal. Ann Miller-Andersen will evidently appear next month for the renewal of Mai...

I love Dr. Paul Broun, Jr. - you are the best thing ever for the Oconee County Democratic Party

Some of you loyal and faithful readers might think I have lost my mind, much like Dr. Broun, but what you have to understand is that if the Oconee County Democratic Party ever stands a chance to really hold an equal footing with the Republicans around here, we need the continued antics, horrible statements and general idiocy of a buffoon like Dr. Broun to drive the masses in our direction. So I hope he continues to suffer from foot in mouth disease and compares President Barack Obama to Hitler, calls him a Marxist, and continues to make a mockery of himself and the local GOP. Although it has been seen by many different people on a variety of different websites, I felt obliged to include Dr. Paul Broun getting named the Worst Person in the World for the second time by Keith Olbermann last night. Keep it up, Dr. Broun, please continue with your ridiculous statements.

Veterans Day Action Supporting Cleland and Duckworth

Max Cleland served with distinction in the Nixon, Ford and Carter administrations. Tammy Duckworth is another fine Veteran deserving of appointment to the Obama administration. This year, however, we also have a tremendous opportunity to honor two of the greatest veterans this nation has ever seen.  With the incoming administr...
