What did Saxby Just Say??

John McCain criticized Taxby Shameless back in 2002 when the Georgia Republican ran advertising comparing Osama Bin Laden and US war hero and then incumbent Senator Max Cleland, but now McCain and Chambliss are campaigning together in Smyrna today.

Woven brightly,

Saxby Shameless Update
- RUNOFF DECEMBER 2 -
McCain Shameless
Dear Friends,
Just as John McCain arrives to campaign for Saxby Shameless for the runoff election, Saxby has done it again. He has proved once again just how shameless he really is.
In an interview with Hannity and Colmes on FoxNews, Saxby was asked about his attacks on Max Cleland in 2002 and he actually defended them.
Here's what was said on November 10, 2008 in the interview:
COLMES: You came under fire of course for that ad against Max Cleland and people have talked about that ever since, the one where there was an image of Osama bin Laden. If you had it to do all over again would you still have run that ad?

CHAMBLISS: You know that ad is a myth, it just hangs around. If people had seen the ads that were run against me by my then opponent they would think that was a light-weight ad, but you know politics is a contact sport. It's a game in where you have to define your opponent and we're going to continue to work hard to address the issues that are important to Georgians. We did then and we're going to do it again.

COLMES: So you would have run it, that, knowing what you know now you would have done the same thing and run the same ad?

CHAMBLISS: Listen that ad was very fair and it pointed out deficiencies in the voting record of my opponent.
"We're going to do it again." Saxby Shameless will do whatever it takes to win. [Watch the full interview here] Even having John McCain campaign with him, who commented on the same attack ad Saxby continues to defend six years later by saying:
McCAIN: I'd never seen anything like that ad. Putting pictures of Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden next to the picture of a man who left three limbs on the battlefield -- it's worse than disgraceful. It's reprehensible."
(Sen. John McCain, quoted by CNN as well as most major news, on the campaign ads used by Saxby Chambliss (R) against Sen. Max Cleland (D-GA) in the 2002 U.S. Senate race)
We need change in Georgia. We need a Senator like Jim Martin!
Don't let the Republicans' dirty tricks continue. Let's reject Saxby's shameless ways and reject John McCain's hypocrisy.

Saxby had more to say; let's send Saxby a message too:
Saxby Shameless also defended going after a candidate's record, and we are very pleased to have been holding Saxby accountable for his voting record throughout this election.
If you haven't already, click here to see just a few of the many reasons why we simply can't afford six more years of Saxby Shameless.
Saxby also made comments about the voters in the FoxNews interview, saying:
There was a high percentage of minority vote, and I am tickled to death that as many Georgians as did examined their right to vote. That's what make our election process the envy of the whole free world, but we weren't able to get enough of our folks out on Election Day. That's a challenge to get them out in a run-off but we look forward to that challenge and I'm pretty excited about looking towards Dec. 2nd.
Let's make sure all Georgians who worked and fought so hard for change this election get back to the polls on December 2 and fire Saxby Chambliss while electing Jim Martin to the US Senate!
We need a Senator who will work with President-elect Obama and the Democratic Congress on behalf of all Georgians.
We have a challenge of our own: runoff elections have very low turnout! Please vote early and make sure you are talking to your friends, neighbors, anyone you can about this runoff. Get involved to make calls, knock on doors, and send Saxby home for good!
