The Pastures of Rose Creek: This Week's Harvest

My only wish is that you all are getting the chance to enjoy this marvelous, outside afternoon too.  That...and maybe a hammock and cup of iced jasmine tea with honey. Well, back to the email...thank you all again so much for the enormous support of the opening of Bradford Pottery AND also a big thank you to all those who came out and attended the very first TUESDAY Oconee Farmers Market at the Watkinsville First Christian Church. And if you didn't make it out to the Tuesday Market - h

Survey shocker: Sen. Jason Carter polls ahead of Gov. Nathan Deal

Jason Carter polls ahead of Gov. Nathan Deal If Gov. Nathan Deal wants to keep his seat in the governor's office, he may want to start thinking about leading on issues that have an impact on people outside of his donor list. In a statewide survey of voters, Better Georgia found no strong support for Gov. Deal, primarily because of voter perceptions of cronyism and corruption along with a lack of leadership on key issues. The big surprise in our polling, however, is the impact that Gov. Deal's weak leadership is already having on voters. In a General Election head-to-head, State Sen. Jason Carter jumped ahead of Gov. Deal, 45 percent to 42 percent. Rep. Scott Holcomb is tied with

I strongly disagree with the impending demolishing of the iconic Watkinsville Water Tower

Image
I know the Watkinsville Water Tower near where the "Big Spring" of what was one called Big Springs, Georgia serves no functional purpose anymore. I know it is a hazard. I know it is rusty and old and past its usefulness for the most part. I see a purpose beyond the aesthetic and instead as a possible financial benefit.  I know there is a way to keep it and make money for our municipality. I wonder who is doing the seemingly shoddy job of removing it (or at least preparing to raze it) and who stands to make money off that?  The dismantling of the Watkinsville Water Tower has already caused one gas leak and I can only imagine what problems await the demolition of the dinosaur.  If it is only because a group of kids have been crawling up it, then build a fence around it. I would think the City of Watkinsville would benefit and making monthly lease fees if they would instead do what about 90% of these abandoned water towers do and that is become a cellular telephone tower t
