Subject: OCPRD Basketball practices/game schedules

Coaches,

Please be reminded that our practice schedule is suspended for the Thanksgiving week. There will be NO PRACTICES Monday Nov. 24, Tuesday Nov. 25, Thursday Nov. 27, and Saturday Nov. 29.

The normal pre-season practice schedule will resume on Monday, December 1st.

Game schedules will be distributed to teams beginning on December 1. We will print enough individual team schedules for coaches to distribute to each of their players.

I hope everyone has had a good start to their practice sessions. Those coaches who have previously coached in our youth basketball program are aware that we have installed a considerable amount of additional pre-season (pre-game) practice time compared to past years.

This should give everyone the opportunity to concentrate more time to teaching fundamentals in our early practices.

I have noticed some teams already spending a considerable amount of time scrimmaging. Unless you happen to have an extraordinarily gifted group of kids, I would strongly suggest to everyone that you use the majority of your practice time for the next 3 or 4 sessions aimed at teaching individual and team fundamentals. These practices will then serve as a good bridge to those latter pre-season practices where scrimmaging may be more effective as we more closely approach our games of the week beginning January 5th.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! See you in the gyms!

Tony
