What Washington Can Learn from Georgia Tour Photos
From Appling to Lincolnton to Savannah to Rabun County, the sense of service and civic participation I saw on our What Washington Can Learn from Georgia: Patriotism and Service tour was inspiring.
And I wanted to take a moment to share some of those stories with you:
In Macon, at the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank, we sorted and packaged donated goods alongside retired U.S. Air Force members, Murrell Anderson and Bob Farquhar, both of whom finished their careers at the Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia.
Following their service in the military, both men continue to serve their country by volunteering in their communities. Murrell now runs a non-profit that assists low-income individuals in his community file their tax returns. Bob continues to serve his country by volunteering in the community through his church. Bob, told me, it is all about, "service to a cause greater than self."
In Appling and Lincolnton, we participated in our very first 4th of July bike parades. In beautiful Mistletoe and Elijah Clark State Parks, we joined with families for traditional fun like potato sack races. (Vinson even won third place in the costume contest thanks to a patriotic blue mustache.) Everywhere we went I was struck by how often our veterans continue their commitment to service and what a debt of gratitude we owe them. In fact, a veteran and his wife had organized the bike parade in Appling!
Working alongside veterans and volunteers who are coming together to lift up their communities inspires me every day to work even harder on the campaign trail.  All of our volunteers (and we have mobilized more than 6,000 already) know that we are working for a cause larger than self when we participate in our democracy.
It is because of supporters like you, who pitched in when we asked for your help, that our campaign raised an astounding $3.4 million last quarter from thousands of citizen investors!
With your continued support, I know we can bring some of the Georgia values I've seen on the campaign trail to Washington.
Thank you for all that you do to lift up your communities and support our campaign,
Michelle
