Oconee Democrats reading list: Community book for September

Apparently the book store "Books Galore" has decided to quit supporting the Oconee County Democratic committee's Book of the Month club selections. Just another indie book store becoming further marginalized unnecessarily.
Woven brightly,

Subject: [oconee] Community book for September

Hello!

The community book group sponsored by the Oconee Democrats will discuss
a sobering but important book this month: "The Devil We Know: Dealing
with the New Iranian Superpower" by former CIA operative Robert Baer.

We'll talk about the book on September 30th (we meet on the last
Wednesday of every month) at 6 PM at Five Points Deli on Epps Bridge
Parkway, with the discussion getting underway around 6:15.

Kirkus Reviews describes "The Devil We Know" as "an important text
studded with keen insights into a nation about which America remains
dangerously misinformed." Publishers Weekly argues that it "adds an
important perspective to a crucial international debate" about how to
deal with Iran's growing power in the most turbulent regions of the
Middle East.

An earlier book of Baer's ("See No Evil") about his two-decade career in
the CIA was the basis for the movie "Syriana" that starred George
Clooney. Baer is considered one of the world's top Middle East experts,
and his analysis of the war in Iraq -- among other topics -- makes the
book well worth reading (though depressing).

Join us sometime! You'll like the people -- we're a spirited bunch!

Folks from any county and any political party are welcomed. Books are
available at a 25% discount at Books Galore in Watkinsville. For more
information, feel free to contact me.
