Unapproved Minutes from the April 2, 2009 Oconee County, Georgia Democratic Committee Meeting


I missed this meeting as I was in Iowa getting family matters tended to, but I am happy to see all the progress in my absence with this local political committee. Come help us out please.

Oconee County Democratic Committee Meeting
April 5, 2009
Oconee County Government Annex, Watkinsville, Georgia

Committee members present: Jonathan Veit (5-3) Chair; Ann Stoneburner (1-3) Vice Chair; Rita Bennett (3-2) Secretary; Sarajane Love (2-3); Herb West (5-1); Myrna Adams West (5-2); Becky Vaughn(5-3); Robert Wyatt(6-1); Pat Adams (6-3).


Others: Erika Ferrari, Liz Goodroe, Gene Lyons


Jonathan called the meeting to order at 7:32 PM


Minutes: The minutes from the December 4 meeting were approved unanimously after a motion by Becky Vaughn and second by Pat Adams.


Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Violet Dawe was absent so there was no report at this time.


OLD BUSINESS:

Report of Advocacy Workshop: Five people attended the two hour session. The participants found it very useful in approaching and writing letters to the Representatives in the Georgia Legislature. Hope to include the Young Democrats in the future.


New Date and time for our monthly meeting: There has been some conflict with some of the other groups, so it was decided to change the date and time of the future meetings. Robert Wyatt made a motion to move the date and time and it was approved.


Report on meeting with Richard Rusk: The meeting was attended by committee members, Jonathan Veit, Becky Vaughn, and Rita Bennett. Others attended were John Green, Richard and Janice Rusk. This was an attempt to pull together other progressive groups in the area and get members to participate at each others meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:

Moore's Ford Memorial Committee: There was discussion for some events to promote the Committee's cause with a possible 4th Sunday series with details coming later. Becky Vaughn made a motion to send $100 to the Moore's Ford Scholarship fund and it was approved by the group.


Presentation of President Obama's Cabinet: Future 4th Sunday Series to give a presentation on the President's cabinet. A tentative date in May was proposed but more details to come later.


Poythress Ice Cream Social: This event is scheduled for April 19th, 3-5 PM at the Tennis Pavilion at Veterans Memorial Park. Several of the committee members were to check on the price of the tubs of ice cream. Other supplies will be needed for this event.

Adopt a Road Clean-up: The next scheduled date for the Clean-up will be Saturday, April 25th at 9AM.

Next Meeting: As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, May 21st, at 7:30 PM in the Oconee County Annex Building.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
