See the Town of Watkinsville as you've never seen it before!

The series of "Saturday Strolls," organized by the Oconee County Democratic Committee, begins on Saturday, July 18th at 9 a.m. The strolls will leave from the front of the Oconee County Courthouse, right across Main Street from the Oconee Farmers Market and the historic Eagle Tavern. The "Saturday Strolls" are a great way to stock up on fresh produce and baked goods at the farmers market, then see the town of Watkinsville through the unique perspective of local business people, dignitaries, naturalists, and historians.

Each stroll leader will give his or her own perspective on the City of Watkinsville, and what he or she considers to be the highlights of the unique and historic town.

The hour-long strolls cost $5/person, with children under 12 a strolling for free. All proceeds will be donated to the charity of the leader's choice.

The first stroll on July 18th will take participants to Full Moon Studio, where R.E.M., John Mayer, and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland -- among many other great recording artists -- have made music heard around the world. Studio owner Mark Cooper Smith, a fine musician himself, will lead the walk that morning.

Other volunteer guides include Kevan Williams, a columnist for Flagpole; Representative Bob Smith; Oconee County Chairman Melvin Davis; and Reverend Kevin Daniel, the minister of the historic African-American Bethel Baptist Church; Watkinsville Mayor Jim Luken; and retired UGA botany professor Dr. Robert Wyatt.

Check the local newspaper and this list serve for details regarding future "Saturday Strolls," and tell your friends and family to join us Saturday mornings throughout the rest of the summer and early fall to Watkinsville as you've never seen it before.

Chairman
