Upcoming water events in the area (river-related)

Ben Emanuel spoke at the Oconee County Democratic Committee meeting last Thursday at Jittery Joe's in Watkinsville on St. Patrick's Day evening. The leader of the Oconee River Project led a far-ranging discussion about everything anyone wanted him to address about water and reservoirs in the area. He mentioned so many events coming up the end that I made sure he emailed them to me so I would not get them wrong.

Hey Dan --

Thanks again for having me to the meeting last week.  Here are some of those various upcoming events. Let me know if I can clarify anything.

Also, please spread the word that I would love to do a Get the Dirt Out training workshop with a group some time. (See www.getthedirtout.org -- I am a certified trainer.)

Thurs. Mar. 24 -- fundraiser house party at Kelly Girtz's house (562 Pulaski St., Athens), 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Sat., Mar. 26 -- UOWN's annual River Rendezvous, 9 a.m. to noon at Sandy Creek Nature Center, www.uown.org

Friday, April 15th -- Annual Athens GreenFest environmental awards ceremony, UGA Odum School of Ecology auditorium (see www.athensgreenfest.com).

Sat., April 16th -- the first-ever Oconee River Classic, 10 am to 4 pm at Big Dog's on the River, 2525 Atlanta Highway in Athens. $20 includes kayak & gear rental, shuttle service, music, food, fun! A portion of proceeds benefit the Oconee River Project of Altamaha Riverkeeper

June 18-24 -- Paddle Georgia 2011 on the Oconee River: http://www.garivers.org./paddle_georgia/

I'm sure I left something out... :)

Thanks again!
