Patsy Harris to run for state House seat
She was my chair on my run for the old 113th and while her district does not include Oconee County anymore, many people commute from Morgan County through Oconee on a daily basis, including Chris Gilbert Hodges, my favorite new city council member in the city of Madison.
Patsy Harris, 63, as announced her candidancy for the District 112
State Represenative race this November. She is the only Democratic
candidate to join the race thus far.
The District 112 positon represents all of Morgan County and half of
Newton County, with a total of 37,000 voters. “I have fallen in love
with this place. I admire its past and want to be part of its future,”
said Harris. Harris plans to form her political platform around the
values and ideals she holds most dearly to her heart.
“The very basic idea that everything stems from is equal opportunity
to prosper in Georgia. This includes a quality education, quality
healthcare, capitalism that is not skewed toward the rich, immigration
reform for those in Georgia, and so on.
One of my fundamental beliefs is that all human beings are my
brothers and sisters and that’s how I want to treat everybody. It’s how I
think everyone should be treated,” explained Harris. “This is who I am,
what I am all about and my platform will come from that.”
Harris, a former Registered Nurse (RN), is the chair of the Morgan
County Democratic Party. She has served in that position for the last
four years, and has been a member for the local Democratic Party for
eight years. This is also her fourth year as the chairwoman of the 10th
Congressional District of the Democratic Party of Georgia.
As the chairwoman, Harris is the liason between 22 county parties,
responsible for reinvigorating and connecting party allies. She has
lived in Morgan County for nearly 20 years. During that time, she has
published four books of local records for genealogists and historians.
Harris also is the chairwoman of the Friends of Morgan County Library,
which raises money to fund supplies and programs for the library. “I
love that work.
I love our library and the opportunities it gives everybody,” said
Harris. Harris, originally from North Carolina, also lived in Miami.
Florida for 20 years before relocating to Morgan County. She currently
resides in Buckhead. She has been married for 30 years to Dudney Harris.
She has one son, John Urso, 38, who is a pilot, and two granddaughters,
Sadie Urso, 6, and Megan Urso, 4. “I love my family and I love this
community,” said Harris. “I hope people will recognize that and vote for
me.”
