TWENTY-ONE GEORGIA DISTRICT ATTORNEYS
ENDORSE JUSTICE CAROL HUNSTEIN FOR RE-ELECTION

ATLANTA – Citing her record of upholding tough penalties for violent criminals, 21 District Attorneys from across the state have endorsed the candidacy of Justice Carol Hunstein for re-election to the Supreme Court of Georgia. The District Attorneys include both Democrats and Republicans, reaffirming Justice Hunstein’s broad support from Georgians of all political viewpoints.

The District Attorneys who have formally endorsed Justice Hunstein in the November 7 General Election include:

n Fredric Bright of Milledgeville, Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit
n John Gray Conger of Columbus, Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit
n Daniel Craig, Augusta Judicial Circuit
n Tom Durden of Hinesville, Atlantic Judicial Circuit
n Denise Fachini, Cordele Judicial Circuit
n Charles Ferguson of Cuthbert, Pataula Judicial Circuit
n Gwen Keyes Fleming of Decatur, Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit
n Craig Fraser, Dublin Judicial Circuit
n Patrick Head of Marietta, Cobb Judicial Circuit
n Cathy Helms of Nashville, Alapaha Judicial Circuit
n Ken Hodges of Albany, Dougherty Judicial Circuit
n Paul Howard, Atlanta Judicial Circuit
n Stephen Kelley, Brunswick Judicial Circuit
n Bob Lavender of Elberton, Northern Judicial Circuit
n Spencer Lawton Jr. of Savannah, Eastern Judicial Circuit
n Kenneth W. Mauldin of Athens, Western Judicial Circuit
n Kermit Neal McManus of Dalton, Conasauga Judicial Circuit
n Penny Penn of Cumming, Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit
n Dennis Sanders of Thomson, Toombs Judicial Circuit
n Jewell Scott of Jonesboro, Clayton Judicial Circuit
n Pete Skandalakis of Newnan, Coweta Judicial Circuit

“This support by so many of Georgia’s prosecutors is a strong validation of Justice Hunstein’s consistent record of protecting law-abiding citizens and their families,” said Dougherty Circuit District Attorney Ken Hodges. “In her 14 years on the Supreme Court, and eight years as a Superior Court Judge before that, Justice Hunstein has been tough on crime and a strong protector of victims of child abuse and domestic violence. She has the second highest record on the Supreme Court for upholding death penalty convictions.”

An independent analysis (published recently in the Fulton County Daily Report) of Justice Hunstein’s record showed that she sided with the prosecution 39 percent more often than did the court as a whole in 99 criminal cases that were decided by a 4-3 vote.

“That’s a record that has obviously been favorably reviewed by those of us who are out there working to get violent criminals off our streets and behind bars where they belong,” Augusta Circuit District Attorney Daniel Craig said. “It’s also a record that helps make law-abiding citizens feel safe and secure.”

Justice Hunstein, who is unaffiliated with any political party, has drawn wide support among both Democrats and Republicans as a result of her experience, fairness, and non-ideological judicial philosophy. Her personal story of struggle and triumph is also an inspiration to all Georgians, regardless of their political affiliation. Carol Hunstein has overcome childhood polio, cancer, loss of a leg, abandonment and divorce, rising from an uneducated single mother in her early 20s to become the second woman to ever serve on our state’s highest court.

Justice Hunstein was appointed to the Georgia Supreme Court by then-Gov. Zell Miller in 1992. She has been re-elected twice without opposition. For more information, visit http://www.hunsteinforjustice.com/.
