Hello to the growing-by-leaps-and-bounds Oconee Democrats!
Finally -- though I'm still reading! -- we're holding the first part of
our book challenge this week in Oconee County.
We're meeting to discuss John McCain's autobiography "Worth the Fighting
for" this Thursday at Five Points Deli on Epps Bridge Road, with the
discussion slated to begin at 6. Please come early to order something
to eat or drink so that we can help support this locally owned eatery.
The discussion will be moderated by the very friendly Dr. Sarah Bell,
former chair of the Republican party in Oconee and an adjunct professor
of English at Gainesville State College in Oconee.
We'll meet to discuss Obama's autobiography "The Audacity of Hope" on
October 16th at the same place and place, again with Dr. Bell moderating.
Books are available at 25% discount at Books Galore in Watkinsville --
with an additional $1 off if you buy both books. One member of our
group suggested that if people were very short on time that they make
sure to read Chapter 12 of McCain's book.
Both books are selling well at Books Galore -- they've reordered several
times -- so we may have a pretty good turn-out!
I'm wondering if one or two of you might be willing to staff (and bring)
a card table outside the restaurant before and after that would give
people a chance to sign up to help an Obama team or other candidate and
to pass out signs and bumper stickers. I've asked the county Republican
party if they want to do that, too. Haven't heard back yet, but it
would be nice for both groups to have a presence. I have voter
registration forms that I'll bring.
Hope to see you!
