The following email is what I sent out to my Jackson County team this morning.  I have been informed that there probably will NOT be enough poll watchers to allocate any to Greene County.  Carl perhaps you can distribute the request to your Oconee County list and Felton you can check with your group of workers.  Maybe people who aren't comfortable calling or canvassing would be willing to be a trained presence at the polls.

A deep wound waiting to be healed - restoring order and dignity in the city cemetery

Image
The Watkinsville City Cemetery is an oasis amidst the houses on the east side of the municipality, near the neighborhood once called Sidney. There is a large section of the cemetery that remains a mystery, but perhaps we can work together to dignify the eternal resting spot somewhat better than the current neglected and forgotten (not to mention unmarked) graves of 70 people, more than likely of African-American descent. They deserve to be honored as well. An effort has been undertaken to repair the graves with fill dirt to stop the continued erosion amongst the graves. The most recent grave and bench belong to Larry Sheats,  and as any one who played basketball at Herman C. Michael Park or knew him otherwise  can attest, he was among the best people this county has ever seen. Larry was always ready to help. Now it is our turn to help. Do it for someone you knew there, maybe the Hardens, or the Downs, or any number of other people, but allow me to reminisce about how L...

Osborne dug his own hole deeper with this comment swiped from the Athens Banner-Herald's comment section

There is no way of knowing with absolute certainty if this is indeed the comment swiped from the article of the Athens Banner-Herald newspaper yesterday of evidently now former North Oconee principal John Osborne or not, but home slice needs to learn from Bill Hamby and Rick Pitino as when to shut the fuck up: I have never in my life posted a to a blog, vent site or sent an editorial, but obviously there are lots of misperceptions out there. Listed below is the EXACT account of what I shared with the ABH. I have lots of pride in both schools and I am merely trying to protect my student athletes. I have been associated with numerous GHSA state championships and our athletes are top shelf. We won a state championship in football at OCHS when I was there because we made are kids bigger faster and stronger. OC is not our enemy nor is it who or what we are preparing our athletes for. My decision is about unity. My decision is about stepping up to play the Stephens Counties and the Hart coun...

#44 March 6, 2025BEARING WITNESS... “Instead of asking whether anyone should be locked up or go free, why don’t we think about why we solve problems by repeating the kind of behavior that brought us this problem in the first place?” —Ruth Wilson Gilmore“If it takes a village to raise a child, it certainly takes a movement to undo an occupation.” —Ruth Wilson Gilmore“Racism enshrines the inequalities that capitalism requires.” —Jodi MelamedGood Thursday evening everyone, Ruth Wilson Gilmore is the director of Center for Race, Culture and Politics at CUNY. She is also a co-founder, along with Angela Y. Davis, of Critical Resistance, which almost 30 years ago called for the abolition of the Prison Industrial Complex.
