Seila Saturday Stroll shows Watkinsville history and reveals where the Big Spring of Big Springs is



Watkinsville was once known as the city of Big Springs. Art Masters store owner Geoff Seila described where the actual water source of that name is - on private land down Barnett Shoals behind the Yarn Barn on the property of local electrician Quinton Phillips and his artist wife Cindy Jarrell. 



We did not walk down there and both them, but Geoff did lead a lively discussion of the history of this area Saturday morning, describing how Watkinsville was first the site of Fort Edward(s) where Eagle Tavern now resides and it is generally but not definitely ascribed that the namesake of the town was Augusta attorney Robert Watkins.  The property for the original county seat of Clarke came from the Cobb family and Geoff pointed out some of the earliest structure still remaining down the street from Eagle Tavern. 


Many new businesses are opening in Watkinsville store fronts including a wedding shop in the Elder building and another new business I am forgetting now next to the latest location of his long standing Art Masters business (presently in its fourth location I am aware of). Custom framing and design will be joined by the Watkinsville Record Store soon, a life long obsession of Seila.

James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
