I am not usually one to repost Erick Erickson's posts from Red State or Peach Pundit, but since this names names, I could not resist. Sounds like regardless of the results of the 2010 elections in Georgia, the G.O.P. will keep us entertained with their hypocrisy and sleaze.

Scenes from this year's Watkinsville Christmas Parade
I rode my semi-recumbent with neighbors Jimmy and Liz Marbut along with their son Seth and daughter Bailey and assorted Sunshine Cycles friends and cyclists - including uni-cyclists, trick riding BMX dudes and a couple of scooters and smaller kids. I think this was at least my fourth parade with my son participating in one way or the other. A little cold at first, but we survived. Thanks for coming to Watkinsville and please pick up all the candy.
I pedaled around the corner and down the street and saw lots of friends with dogs and children. It was a great time for all if not a little chilly. The sun came out and we were lucky to be number 25 in line.
Most of all the thanks go to all the volunteer firefighters and police who help bring in several thousand visitors in the smallest of citiies. How some of those floats made the corner on to First Street was beyond me. Mayor Jim Luken was a very deserving Parade marshall in his last year at the helm in Watkinsville. I do hope he maintains an active role in area politics and policy. I believe he is going to continue to be on the Oconee County Development Authority.
I wish he would run for the Oconee County Board of Commissioners or against Bob Smith or Paul Broun. But I respect his decision to remain retired and close to his family. I am glad Luken has served Watkinsville so well in his tenure. He came to power of some speed humps on his street and remained at the helm when no one was available.

Happy Holidays to all!
The Oconee County Cycling Organization's developmental board is continuing to meet and pushing forward on establishing a formal advocacy group. Progress continues on all fronts: incorporating the group, planning member benefits, and planning a kick-off membership drive. Steve Kogan will serve as Vice-President as Jim Shanni is busy working with the legal foundation of our group.
We would also like to note that this Saturday, Jimmy Marbut from Sunshine Cycles has invited cyclists of all ages to participate in the Watkinsville Christmas Parade. We hope you consider coming. His email is below:
hey folks,
I wanted to invite you to come out this Saturday and ride a bike (or walk or ride in the truck) in the Watkinsville Christmas parade with me, my family and Sunshine Cycles.
we will start lining up at 10am on Barnett Shoals two blocks behind town center. we are float #25. you can ask any of the volunteers where #25 is if you can't find us. there will be my white pickup plus lots of bikes so it shouldn't be hard to find. the parade starts promptly at 11am.
bring your bike, dress up if you want to and we'll provide the candy.
we HIGHLY encourage kids to come and ride their bikes but I ask at least one mom or dad be with them.
give me a shout back (marbut4@msn.com) and let me know if you can come so I can figure out how much candy to get so everybody has some.
thanks and Merry Christmas!!

Small Town Politics - North High Shoals: Meeting Monday
North High Shoals will have a work session and or public hearing 7 pm Monday - please show up and ask the old regime to show up as well if you see them. No longer is there a need to remain hidden in the woods or effectively filibuster by not attending.

Editorial: 'Duty fitness' policy a problem for Oconee || OnlineAthens.com
Here we go again. What will this bout of verbal fisticuffs bring about now? Can we expect any further contentious statements about the substandard facilities, or faculties, or assorted other comparisons. Here are the key elements: OCHS is crumbling and falling apart. The best athletes are by in large attending NOHS, at least as far as this private school parent can tell. Kids and parents are not happy with a lot of academic and athletic situations at both schools. OCHS is going to get their ass kicked by the Gainesville, Johnson and West Hall in addition to Lanier and Walnut Grove in region play and usually still beat the traditional neighboring rival Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes in future GHSA action. East Jackson, Elbert County, Hart County, Jackson County, Jefferson, North Oconee and Oglethorpe County will make up a much closer and competitive 8B-AA where the Titans should dominate for many State Tourneys to come. Athens Academy earns a new subregion foe in George Walton Academy, who I applaud for having the stones to move from the wimpy GISA to GHSA.

Remember the Titans' principal?
Aside from the sign in the gym, ousted North Oconee High School John Osborne has absolutely nothing to do with the Denzel Washington film that I had a bit role in back in the day.
