Dear Friends,

Readers of this blog know that the county is holding a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Civic Center. Other bloggers also have promoted the meeting. But readers of the print media alone easily could have missed it.

Both of the local weeklies have ignored the meeting. The Athens Banner-Herald at least has run two shorts announcing it.

I've listed a number of issues that could--some are arguing should--come up at the meeting. I'm certain you can think of others. I urge you to come to the meeting and express your concerns and ask your questions.

My list and other details about the meeting are at:

Both of the weeklies invest quite heavily in high school sports coverage. In the case of  The Oconee Leader, that is almost to the exclusion of everything else. Both papers have very weak web products, however, and last week they got some new competition.

Johnathan McGinty, a local blogger and former sports writer, has launched The Northeast Georgia Sportline: http://www.negasportsline.com/

This shows how easy it is to enter the media market today. That doesn't mean it is easy to make any money at it. But we're all better because of those who join the competition.
