Almost a month ago, I sent out a call for resumes for the Executive Director position of the DPG.  The application time frame is now closed and I have received more than 50 resumes for the position.
 
I am in the process of reviewing each and every application with the idea of cutting them down to between 10-15 candidates that I intend to interview as soon as possible. After that round of interviews, I will cut the number down to about 5 finalists.
 
I have formed a committee to review the final applicants and make a recommendation back to me of two people for consideration to be hired. The Committee is made up of several individuals and comprises members recommended to me by Senate and House leadership, and includes a representative from our Congressional Delegation, the State Party, a former statewide candidate, democratic activists and affiliate members.  These include:
 
·         Senator Lester Jackson
·         State Representative Brian Thomas
·         First Vice Chair Nikema Williams
·         5th Congressional Vice Chair Catherine Smith
·         GADCC President Dr. Lowell Greenbaum
·         Mrs. Lucy Draper
·         Former Candidate for Lt. Governor Carol Porter
·         Leslie Small- Political Director for Congressman John Lewis
 
I plan to make a final decision before the end of May with the idea of having the ED start on or about June 1st.  I have made no decision on the remaining staff and expect that there will be significant changes after the ED is in place. I will let you know as the process continues.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
