Book for August: "Deer Hunting with Jesus"
Get this book and learn about rednecks
For August, the book group the Oconee Democrats sponsor is reading Joe
Bageant's "Deer Hunting with Jesus."
Here's part of the description from amazon:
"'Deer Hunting with Jesus' is [popular] web columnist Joe Bageant's
report on what he learned when he moved back to his hometown of
Winchester, Virginia, which -- like countless American small towns -- is
fast becoming the bedrock of a permanent underclass. By turns brutal,
tender, incendiary, and seriously funny, this book is a call to arms for
fellow progressives with little real understanding of "the great beery,
NASCAR-loving, church-going, gun-owning America that has never set foot
in a Starbucks."
The book should be in soon at Books Galore in Watkinsville.
Come join us to talk about the working poor in our country!

We meet the last Wednesday of every month at Piccolo's in the Bell's
Shopping Center in Watkinsville. Some of us arrive at 6:30 to chat a
while; the book discussion begins at 7.
Sincerely,
Dan Matthews
