Friends,

As you know, there are many sides to any argument and certainly in the case of the upcoming vote on the proposed Charter Schools Amendment, plenty of words have been spilled by both the Pro and No forces.

I am against amendment 1, but I will also tell you what I am FOR:  good schools for all kids.  All kids.  That to me is the only goal worth fighting for in education.   I don't think setting up an appointed commission to establish special state charter schools will move us toward that goal.  Thus my No vote.

Of the various columns written recently, I will call two to your attention from the past couple of days that I consider particularly worthwhile:

Jason Carter in the Atlanta Constitution:

Dick Yarbrough in the Macon Telegraph:

Before you cast your vote on this all-importtant ballot measure for Georgia's schools, please consider these, and watch this excellent video of two Grady High School seniors explaining the amendment:

Thank you for reading and please support Georgia's schools and not the chaos theory being proposed-- Vote NO on Amendment 1.

Sincerely,

Bertis Downs, Athens GA
