There will be a service and reception to celebrate and remember the life of Kajal Patel on Sunday, March 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Athens Academy's Spartan Center.  The family has requested casual dress for the service.  Please wear bright colored shirts or Be a Hero for Kajal t-shirts.  In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to:  Be A Hero for Kajal Service and Leadership Endowment Fund at Athens Academy.

Please continue to keep Kajal's family in your thoughts and prayers.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
