2013 Congressional Art Contest

Dear Friends,

If you are a high school student or you know one in the 10th Congressional District, then you won't want to miss my 2013 Congressional Art Competition.  The winning entry will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, and the student artist will be invited to a national reception in Washington, D.C.

Eligible entries are due Monday, March 25th and include paintings, drawings, photography, collage, and computer generated art.  Please visit my website at http://broun.house.gov/kids/art.htm for the student release form and competition guidelines.  Artwork entries may be submitted to my Athens district office or to one of the following drop-off locations:
  • Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce at 149 Main Street in Thomson;
  • Washington County Chamber of Commerce at 131 West Haynes Street, Suite B, in Sandersville; or
  • Madison-Morgan Chamber of Commerce at 115 East Jefferson Street in Madison.
Then on Saturday, April 27th, I will hold a district reception at Georgia Square Mall, so I can recognize the artistic abilities of our young people.  I hope you'll make plans to participate.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
