ANNUAL DOG DAY SET FOR APRIL 27
The Town's Fourth Annual Dog Day will take place on Saturday, April 27, nine to noon, at City Park. This year will be bigger and better than ever, with celebrity guests and judges. Hosted this year by John MacKay and Lorena de Santa, it's all free. Don't let your dog miss it!
For many in Town, this will be the first chance to try out the park's new nature trail and to see the progress on the volleyball court.
COMMUNITY YARD SALE ON MAY 18
Our neighbor across the bridge, Dr. Suzanne Sheldon, has organized the Town's First Annual Yard Sale. It will take place on Saturday, May 18, starting at 8 am. The entire park is reserved for this event.
There is no charge to vend, but you must register with Town Hall in advance. Vendors must bring their own tables, chairs, change, bags, and priced items.
PUBLIC BUDGET HEARING SCHEDULED FOR MAY 20
Town Council has scheduled a public hearing on the 2013-14 Budget for Monday May 20, at 7 pm. The hearing will be followed immediately by the monthly Council meeting.
COUNCIL TALKS GREENWAY AND MORE AT APRIL MEETING
The Council meeting on April 15 began promptly at 7:30 pm and adjourned at 9:37 pm. It was attended by Mayor Mike Beall, Council Members Violet Dawe, Steve Holzman, Jason Wisniewski, and David Lawrence, and Town Clerk Carolyn Pritchett. Also present were citizens Frances and Mike Arnold, John MacKay, and Dave Evans.
First up for consideration was the application for an Occupational Certificate for Frances Arnold, CPA, 1081 Arborwood Ridge, in Hickory Ridge. Frances has been in practice for more than 20 years and moved to the town from Boulder Creek in September. Most of her work is virtual, and she estimates no more than 10 to 12 business visitors a month. She will not post signs or receive unusual deliveries, so her work will not impact the residential character of Hickory Ridge. Council voted unanimously to issue the certificate.
Council also issued a renewal of the provisional occupational certificate for Tops Tree Service (Stan Brown) on Plantation Road.
Violet Dawe reported that she has received several requests for a sidewalk on Gober Road, running from Shadyfield Lane to the park. After discussing potential issues with SR 186, it was decided that Carolyn Pritchett will call the state and ask if they would allow it.
Council then went on to address the Zoning Map, a reservation process for the rental of the park pavilion and ball field, and a potential greenway connecting the park to several parts of North High Shoals. As if that wasn't enough, they then launched into what can only be described as a mind-numbing review of the budget, in anticipation of next month's public budget hearing.
Lastly, upon Violet Dawe's motion, it issued a proclamation in support of Garden Week in Georgia (the third week in April.)
