"This special election for Chair is incredibly important in our efforts to win back the state. We have to elect the right person for the job. I am honored to support former State Senator and 2010 Democratic Nominee for Insurance Commissioner, Mary Squires, for Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia. Mary has spent the past two decades fighting for Georgia families. She has a demonstrated track record of raising the money we need to fully fund the party so we can do more than keep just keep the lights on---we can win elections. Mary is the most qualified person to mend the fractured relationships within the party, and do the things needed to turn Georgia blue, including standing up for the minorities in this state, and hold the Republican Party accountable," said Senator Emanuel Jones.
"When thinking about what the DPG needs, it needs leadership. When thinking about Mary Squires, the first thing that comes to mind is that she is a proven leader. Mary is a forthright, fair-minded woman who will not only listen to all parts of our State Party, but will act with our entire state in mind. With the constant change in Georgia's demographics, we need a leader who has a plan. We've had candidates who were visionaries, and candidates that made many promises. Mary has a proven track record of doing what she says. The DPG needs Mary's strong open-minded leadership now. It is my privilege to endorse Mary Squires for DPG Chair," said Gretchen Quarterman, Chair of the Lowndes County Democratic Party.
"I can't tell you how honored I am at this outpouring of support from my friends and fellow Democrats throughout Georgia. These Democrat leaders and activists are on the front line fighting hard (for free) to get good folks elected throughout the state. As Chair, I will make sure they have the resources they need to ensure that happens," said Mary Squires.
Mary Squires was elected to the Georgia General Assembly in 1998. She served two terms in the State House (1999-2003) and one term in the Georgia State Senate (2003-2005). In 2010, Squires was the Democratic Nominee for Georgia Insurance Commissioner. In addition to her legislative experience, Squires served ten years in the Georgia Army National Guard. Currently, she sits on the Steering Committee of the global, olive oil quality organization, the Extra Virgin Alliance. Squires and her husband, Tom West, of Augusta currently reside in Atlanta, Georgia and have four children.
