George Wallace's angry Southern conservatism up for discussion

I remember vividly wathcing Arthur Bremer cripple George Wallace in a failed assassination attempt in 1972 and he won the Maryland and Michigan primaries the next day.

Subject: [oconee] angry Southern conservatism up for discussion

The Oconee Democrats' book group will be discussing "The Politics of
Rage: George Wallace, the Origins of the New Conservatism, and the
Transformation of America Politics" for our last meeting in 2013.

I'm finding it very interesting as I read about the terrible poverty in
the south when Wallace grew up (I'd forgotten that southerners LOVED
Roosevelt and the New Deal!), the risks of flying B-29s during WWII
(because of the plane's many problems), the long-nursed hatred of the
federal government, and more.

Because our usual last Wednesday of the month falls so close to
Thanksgiving, we're meeting the first Wednesday in December -- on the
4th -- instead.

We'll meet at the Watkinsville restaurant Chops and Hops at 6:30 for
dinner and/or drinks and 7 for the conversation about the book.

Hope to see you for our last book discussion of the year -- on December 4th!

Pat Priest
Member, Oconee Democrats
