Subject: interesting historical event

OCAF is celebrating their first 20 years with an exhibit entitled The OCAF Story.  They did a lot of research and collected oral histories that have been edited to create a video.  The opening reception is Friday January 24 6-8pm.  If you can't make that the exhibit will be up January 11 through January 31.
Don't forget our annual meeting at Ashford on Main January 21 7pm

A deep wound waiting to be healed - restoring order and dignity in the city cemetery

Image
The Watkinsville City Cemetery is an oasis amidst the houses on the east side of the municipality, near the neighborhood once called Sidney. There is a large section of the cemetery that remains a mystery, but perhaps we can work together to dignify the eternal resting spot somewhat better than the current neglected and forgotten (not to mention unmarked) graves of 70 people, more than likely of African-American descent. Listed below is the EXACT account of what I shared with the ABH. I have lots of pride in both schools and I am merely trying to protect my student athletes. I have been associated with numerous GHSA state championships and our athletes are top shelf. We won a state championship in football at OCHS when I was there because we made are kids bigger faster and stronger. OC is not our enemy nor is it who or what we are preparing our athletes for. My decision is about unity. My decision is about stepping up to play the Stephens Counties and the Hart coun...

She is also a co-founder, along with Angela Y. Davis, of Critical Resistance, which almost 30 years ago called for the abolition of the Prison Industrial Complex.
