Georgia Legislators Endorse Val Wilson
Experience, leadership skills translate to support in Sch Super race
Atlanta, Ga. - June 17, 2014Twenty-four elected officials from around Georgia have added their names to the growing list of leaders endorsing Valarie Wilson in her campaign for the Democratic nomination for State School Superintendent.

"I am excited to join my colleagues in endorsing Valarie Wilson's bid for Georgia State School Superintendent," said Sen. Vincent Fort, whip of the Senate Democratic Caucus. "She has the hands-on experience our public schools need and the leadership skills necessary to ensure that all Georgia students have access to a great education and are prepared to enter the workforce."

Fort joined Sens. Ed Harbison, Emanuel Jones, David Lucas, Nan Orrock, Freddie Powell Sims, Gloria Butler, Ron Ramsey, Steve Henson and Reps. Simone Bell, Carolyn Hugley, Sharon Beasley-Teague, Debbie Buckner, Roger Bruce, Pam Dickerson, Gloria Frazier, Mary Margaret Oliver, Henry Howard, Nikki Randall, Earnest Smith, Mickey Stephens, David Wilkerson, Melvin Johnson and Coach Williams in endorsing Wilson.

Wilson has also been endorsed by the Georgia AFL-CIO, Georgia Association of Educators' Public Education Fund, Georgia Federation of Teachers, LIUNA Local 515, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1996, Gwinnett Daily Forum, Atlanta Progressive News, Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys and the Network for Public Education.

"The most important thing we can do to improve educational outcomes is to have in place the right leadership. In order for Georgia to have economic success, we must first create educational success of our children. I believe Valarie Wilson is the right leader to ensure educational success for Georgia's children," said Rep Carolyn Hugley, whip of the House Democratic Caucus.

Wilson is the only candidate in July 22 primary election runoff who has both overhauled a local school district and helped to formulate statewide educational policy. Wilson also served on Gov. Deal's Education Advisory Board.

"I am excited to have the support of so many leaders in Georgia. I am working hard to gain the support of Georgians in every community across the state. I believe there is nothing more important than a great education," Wilson said.
