Services set for Horst Klein

Funeral arrangements have been set for local businessman Horst
Klein. A service will be held Wednesday, June 18 at 2 p.m. at the chapel
of Lord and Stephens, East, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens, with a
reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
Horst Klein Memorial Account at Oconee State Bank, P.O. Box 205,
Watkinsville, Ga. 30677. The donations will support the work of the
chaplains office at the medical center in Gainesville.

Klein, 76, had recently retired after selling Engineered Fabrications, the company he founded.

Klein died Tuesday, one month after a freak accident when he tripped and fell onto a john boat that he was carrying.

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
