Athens man charged with raping 12-year-old Oconee girl

A 20-year-old Athens man charged Thursday with molesting a
12-year-old girl at her home in Oconee County had assault charges
dropped against him in Athens for an alleged attack on a 13-year-old
girl in 2013.

Rivington Bradford Jr., is charged with aggravated sodomy, child
molestation, false imprisonment and rape for Thursday morning’s attack
on the girl in her home, located in a neighborhood off Epps Bridge
Parkway, according to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.

Bradford remained in jail Friday morning without bond.

Bradford was arrested in July 2010 for assaulting a girl in Athens
who told police he began sexually assaulting her, until her brother
entered the room and attacked Bradford, police said. Bradford was
charged with sexual battery in that incident, but a Clarke County grand
jury declined to indict him on the charge.

Regarding Thursday’s attack, Oconee County Chief Deputy Lee Weems
said Bradford knew the family in whose home he was visiting. He is
charged with molesting and raping the girl during the morning hours. The
girl told family members about the assault when Bradford left the
house, Weems said. A manhunt for Bradford began around 2:30 p.m. in the
Epps Bridge Road area.

Two investigators in an unmarked unit spotted Bradford less than two
hours later, pushing a bicycle as he emerged from woods along Dowdy
Road, Chief Investigator Jay Higgins said Friday.

Bradford was arrested without incident, Higgins said.
