Here is a brief summary of this month's meeting and the plans for History on the Lawn.  Please contact us if you have any ideas or see anything you can help with.
Peggy
History on the Lawn:  We spent a great deal of time making suggestions to help George and the University of North Georgia folks edit the first draft of the flyer.
The other major item connected with History on the Lawn was discussing who would contact people to get them involved or who would work on various aspects of the event.
(1).  We discussed possible games.  Both croquet and horseshoes were mentioned as possible old timey games.  Any one out there have other game ideas?
(2) We discussed the need for quiet space for the oral history part of the program, since Ashford on Main is no longer available.  We are hoping that the Ashford Memorial Methodist Church will let us use some Sunday School rooms and give folks tours of their sanctuary.
(3)  Lisa Douglas did a good job with the books last time and we agreed to ask her to do it again.
(4) We also plan to ask the DAR SAR Colonial Dames and other such groups to participate.
(5) Dave agreed to see what he could do about getting us some music.  Someone brought up the idea that old time Gospel Music might be fun. Another possibility would be a barbershop quartet.
(6) We hope to get Bishop and other towns in Oconee County involved.  If you have contacts with one of these towns please help us with information on who to talk to and help them participate.
(7) Denise Weimer will be publicizing her latest book in September and we would like to give her a chance to come and share it.
(8) Marti will bring her Ladies of Distinction and some refreshments like she did last time.  She will also see about bringing some of her Confederate Calvary reenacting friends.
(9)  Mary Delaplane, Bonnie Montgomery and Vicki Moody will be invited to return

August First is the historical themed First Friday:  Since Ashford on Main is no longer available for events, Cindy Pritchard has offered the use of the Watkinsville First United Methodist Church as an alternate location.  Come help join us in the First Friday fun.
