Oconee County Democratic Committee
Agenda - March 19 2015 Business Meeting
Government Annex, Watkinsville, GA
1281 Greensboro Highway, Room B2
1. Call meeting to order, and record Members present or with excused absences
2. Nomination and Election of Officers:
Committee members who have agreed to accept nominations:
Margaret Holt - Chair; Sarajane Love – Secretary; Robert Wyatt – Treasurer; Vicky Moody - State Committee Member; and Pat Adams - First Vice-Chair.
Additional nominations for officers will be accepted from the floor.
3. Recognition of Carolyn Crawford, past Chair
4. Collection of Dues from Committee Members:
Carolyn, Wendy Wade, and Margaret have paid dues for 2015. There is no set amount for dues. Members have given what they consider reasonable.
According to the bylaws: “3.9. Dues: Reasonable dues for members may be set, upon due deliberation and majority vote of the Committee. No person elected to serve in a Committee post shall be denied the right to participate for a failure to pay dues to the Committee.”
5. A miscellaneous expenses fund has been started by interested Committee members:
This fund will cover incidental expenses incurred by members, such as drinks or ice purchased for meetings with speakers or for memorials.
6. Future guest speakers:
Are there any suggestions? Margaret has a speaker to propose for this Spring, possibly for either the April 16th or May 21st meeting, depending on availability and interest of the Committee.
7. Joe Wisenbaker, former Chair of the Athens – Clarke Democrats, spoke at our last meeting about attracting new members through the activities of civic-oriented groups.
Sarajane's Litter Pick-up and Pat Priest's Oconee Democrats Book Club are good examples that are already in place. With Carolyn’s interest in public libraries, she might organize a group that volunteered at the library once every quarter to read stories or serve in some needed way. Robert Wyatt or Ann Stoneburner could volunteer to organize or lead nature walks several times during the year.
8. A paperback book collection for inmates of the Oconee County Jail has been organized by Pat Priest for the month of April under the auspices of our Committee.
Pat has received Sheriff Berry’s approval and support, obtained permission for drop-off sites, and written the press release. It is our responsibility to provide labeled book collection boxes for the four drop-off sites and to transport collected paperbacks to the Jail through the month of April. Volunteers are needed to help collect paperbacks from the different sites, and one of these will need to compile the total number of books taken to the jail.
9. Web-site situation.
10. Need for a list serve and a public email address.
