Reception for 2016 Southworks art exhibit to open Friday in Watkinsville

The 2016 Southworks Exhibition will feature “ENCORE16,” a special
showing of acclaimed artworks that were shown at previous Southworks
exhibitions.

The exhibit opens Friday with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. in the
Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation in downtown Watkinsville. The reception
is free and open to the public.

Southworks also features the Southworks National Juried Exhibit which
showcases 79 artworks from 52 local and national artists whose work was
chosen from hundreds of applications received from across the country.

All work in the exhibit was selected by the juror, Stephen Wicks, who
is a curator at the Knoxville Museum of Art, where he has worked for
more than 20 years. He was previously curator of collections at the
Columbus Museum in Columbus, Ga.

The ENCORE16 exhibit showcases work from artists whose works were shown at previous Southworks exhibitions.

“It is a rare event to see artwork of this caliber presented
together,” said OCAF gallery director Charles Warnock. “Each of the
artists represented have achieved notoriety by their uniqueness and
dedication to their craft.”

“This exhibit will also pay tribute to those director’s choice
artists who are no longer with us. They include Benny Andrews, Beverly
Buchanan, Lamar Dodd, and Howard Finster,” Warnock said.

Among other artists featured in ENCORE16 are Glen Kaufman, Otto
Lange, Ron Meyers, Margaret Morrison, Philip Moulthrop, Rich Panico, Jan
Perkins, Art Rosenbaum, Thom Ross, Terry Rowlett and Art Werger.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call (706) 769-4565, e-mail info@ocaf.com or visit www.ocaf.com.
