Tom DeLay does not want you to know he is on the Russian payroll

Now Tom DeLay thinks he can control your television too.

Tom DeLay doesn't want his constituents to know about the $1 million Russian tycoons gave to a shadowy front group called U.S. Family Network, which was run by a former staffer. That's because the Washington Post discovered the Russian money was donated allegedly to influence his vote.

So, when Public Campaign Action Fund and Campaign for America's Future began running a TV ad - with your support - that educated people about this Russian money, DeLay threatened to sue any TV station that aired it. Click here to demand they put the ads back on the air!

The TV stations got scared and pulled the ad - even though FactCheck.org has said that everything in the ad is true!

DeLay's bullying has backfired (mostly) and the story of Tom DeLay's strong-arm tactics has been all over the news, including on national television, and has spread far and wide on the internet.

Yet the people of Houston are still being denied the opportunity to view the ad on the air, because the stations have let themselves be intimidated by DeLay and his lawyers.

That's why I'm writing.

This ad is a public service, and tells the truth behind a story DeLay's constituents have a right to hear. We need you to urge the local TV stations to do their job and air the ads.

Please take a minute and email the station managers at the four broadcast stations in Houston (KTRK, KHOU, KPRC, and KRIV) and urge them to put this ad back on the air. Ask your friends to send a message too!

Then, if you'd like, submit a letter to the editor of your local paper or the Houston Chronicle at viewpoints@chron.com. Make it a triple threat by giving a gift to Public Campaign Action Fund that allows campaigns like this to go forward.

We'll keep you up to date on the latest -- thanks for all you do.

National Campaigns Director

and it keeps on getting worse:

Shaken by the bold exposé of corruption depicted in the ad we shared with you on Wednesday, Tom DeLay has resorted to bullying TV stations who planned to air the spots. On Monday, DeLay threatened to sue any TV station that airs the ad on the grounds that it casts him in a "false light." So far, unfortunately, the TV stations are bowing to DeLay's pressure and have temporarily pulled the ads off the air.

The station managers threatened by DeLay need to hear from us to build the courage needed to stand up to DeLay and air our fact-based ad. Please, email the TV station managers and tell them not to censor the facts!

The truth is, Tom DeLay has no grounds on which to threaten the TV stations, and is resorting to bullying tactics out of pure desperation. DeLay doesn't want a TV spot running in his district letting voters know that he received tens of thousands of dollars from convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff and Abramoff's associates and clients. [1] He certainly doesn't want his Houston constituents to know that Russian tycoons "contributed $1 million to [a DeLay-related] group in 1998 specifically to influence DeLay's vote." [2]

The truth is, Tom DeLay is caught in his own web of corruption -- and, his constituents deserve to know the truth.

In breaking news, we just learned that Factcheck.org -- a non-partisan website affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania -- confirmed that the ad produced by Public Campaign Action Fund and the Campaign for America's Future is accurate and that DeLay's criticism is unfounded. The ad "contains nothing that is strictly false," and Rep. DeLay's lawyer "mischaracterized" what the ad said, wrote FactCheck.org on its website. [3]

We need to let the managers of the four TV stations struggling with the decision to air the ad know that the facts are on our side, and that they should not cave to DeLay's baseless bullying. See the facts for yourself along with the sources that back up each of the statements made in the ad. Then, email the TV station managers and urge them to stand up to DeLay and run the ad today!
