Volunteers needed for April 8th bike ride

The next Oconee Democratic Committee meeting will be 8 pm Thursday, April 6 devoted to planning the Bike Ride the following Saturday. Some of these are already in motion, some need doing before then, and we need some big vans to help with the SAG duties.

1) Legal and permits: We need to file a permit/application along with
a $40 fee, and appear at the March BOC meeting prepared to answer
questions. This permit needs to be done asap so that we can get on
the March BOC agenda.

2) Marketing: Once the ride is approved, we need to send press
releases to newspapers in Oconee and surrounding counties. We also
need to contact Dem Committees in surrounding counties, state dems,
and relevant bike clubs, shops, and event lists. (I will be glad to do
this.)

3) Sponsors: If we want sponsors, we need to find them.

4) Facilities: We will need to clear with Gina Lindsay that we can
use the Court House Parking lot as a gathering place for the ride.
Also, we need to contact Henry Hibbs about using the extension office
again.

5) Police: Depending on the BOC's and Scott Berry's stipulations, we
will need get some off-duty police for an hour two on the day of the
ride.

6) Goodie bags: We need to find stuff to put in the goody bags, design
t-shirts and have them printed.

7) Routes: We need to decide on the routes; design and print maps;
mark the routes. It has been suggested that we try to keep the ride
entirely in Oconee County. This might be difficult, but we can try.

7) Day of the ride: We will need volunteers for the day of the ride.
Responsibilities include: Set up and break down of registration
(tables, tent ?, etc.); registration; set up food and drink at
prearranged spots along the routes at approximately 15-mile intervals.
We will need jug coolers with Gatorade, food etc. We will also need
SAG drivers.
