Little off topic, but interesting none-the-less - I love the Theater
Daniel,
I happened across your blog while sending out press releases.
I am fairly new to the area and have started a theatre which you may find exciting, if you like entertaining theatre anyway.
We are grateful that Chris Starr has contacted our theatre, and is going to be doing an article for the Banner-Herald, however...
I thought you might like to have some general information about Rose of Athens Theatre, so I've attached a press release and a mission statement.
Enjoyed reading your blog,
Lisa Cesnik

During The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged), Rose of Athens Theatre’s first production in Athens, Georgia, three brave and foolish actors attempt the implausible job of covering the old testament and new testament in it’s entirety in a two-act play. Sound fast-paced? Sound ridiculous? Well, yes, but it is also supremely entertaining and it might just prove that God has a sense of humor. The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) is a loopy romp from the Pentateuch to Revelations. This production is for mature audiences and is especially fun for those who grew up with these stories, but even if you’ve never read a word of the Bible, the play is ludicrously enjoyable. The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) includes live music and it is great for short attention spans and for those who like to giggle.
The play consists of three actors, Sean Arington, Lisa Cesnik and Lisa Mende. All are seasoned performers and all are local talents. Sean Arington has lived and worked in Athens, Georgia off and on since 1990. One of the stated goals of Rose of Athens Theatre is to “integrate live, current Georgia music and musicians into productions”. Sean’s presence in the cast fulfills this goal. He is a gifted songwriter/solo artist and a consummate collaborator. He is currently in the midst of completing his first solo venture, Pinocchio’s Wish, and was formerly in Athens band, Big Atomic. Sean also recently performed the role of Johnny Ramone in a Ramones cover band on Halloween night at Tasty World.
Lisa Mende is a transplanted Hollywood actor, best known for her work on Seinfeld, although she worked for 20 years on many television shows and films, including Gross Pointe, Sex in the City, Friends and Gremlins II. Lisa is also a professional standup comedienne and has worked with many reputable improv groups.
Lisa Cesnik, artistic director of the newly formed Rose of Athens Theatre and its outreach program, Shakespeare Aloud!, has lived in the Athens area off and on since 1998. A professional theatre artist, Lisa has most recently worked in Columbus, Georgia at the Springer Opera House, Georgia’s Historic State Theatre, where she performs, directs and teaches. She has worked with theatre companies in Chicago, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, North Carolina, Virginia and Georgia, including Dad’s Garage Theatre Company in Atlanta. Lisa recently founded Rose of Athens Theatre to “create performances where great stories can be told in exciting, unusual and entertaining ways and where every kind of person feels welcome at the theater.”
Performances for The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged), will take place on Dec 1st and 2nd at 8pm, Dec 3rd at 5:30pm and Dec 7th, 8th and 9th at 8pm. A play with music, it will be performed at Jittery Joe’s Coffee Roasting Co. at 780 East Broad, across from the new transportation center, up the street from Weaver D’s. This comedy is for mature audiences and tickets range from $10-15 per ticket, cash or check only. For ticket reservations call 706-769-9829.
