Who the hell is Jackie Poteet?

She is an Augusta businesswoman running for the 10th district special election congressional seat. I salute and admire anyone who can pony up the candidate qualifying fees for this race. Lord knows I have tried to use the backdoor excuse to get on the planning commission and the Board of Education here a couple of times. Poteet's lack of familiarity with voters in Athens and Watkinsville illustrates how unknown a Dr. Paul Broun, Jr. or Doc Eldrige or Tom Chasteen or Willie Green are in Augusta and surrounding counties. This special election will be a case study in micro-campaigning in two relatively divergent media markets that have almost nothing to do with Atlanta. Perhaps the person who gets on infomercials the quickest will get a leg up on this race. Again I think Blake does a great job of pointing out the obvious anger Hudgens has honed in Athens with the redistricting debacle last year. Current web profile for all the candidates is almost non-existent save for some bookmark type sites.

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
