Daniells Bridge Road raceway revs up

Anyone (except 3 BOC members and most of the Planning Commission) with a little bit of foresight and knowledge would quickly realize the curvy Daniells Bridge Road cut-through will see a hundred fold traffic increase with each new massive development thoughtlessly shoved down our throat. At least it looks like a traffic light is going into where it meets Experiment Station Road - most Gainesville State College kid drivers know this traffic route now. I wrote the preceeding paragraph but I got the rest of this from Lee Becker via Charlie Baugh.

Following is a message from Lee Becker with information about a rezone on Daniells Bridge Road. More of the same, rezones creating more traffic on narrow unsafe roads. Just another step in our march toward "Developed Land". Those directly impacted by this may want to let our elected decision makers know of your concerns.

Dear Neighbors:

As you might have noticed, a rezone request has been posted for a piece of property on Daniells Bridge Road, between Founders Grove and Chestnut Hill Road.

The request is to rezone the property from AR-1 (agricultural and residential use, 1 acre lot) to OBP Office-Business Park District.

The problems with the request are two. First, it is on a curve in the road. The road is only two lanes at that point. The rezone will make Daniells Bridge Road even more congested and unsafe. Second, this is business creep into our residential area. The land across Daniells Bridge Road from the property is residential. The adjoining land moving down Daniells Bridge Road is residential or agricultural.

Among the possible uses of the land under the OBP rezone are: newspaper publishing; banks; automotive repair, car washes; dry cleaners; pet kennels; retail electronics stores; building materials dealers; auction houses; apparel manufacturing; wood product manufacturing (except sawmills); pharmaceutical manufacturing; machine shops; dental laboratories; general warehousing and storage; general freight shipping; crematories; and private schools from kindergarten to universities.

I shortened the list, but you get the picture. This is not a residential-friendly category.

Spread the word and attend the Planning Commission meeting on April 16 and the Board of Commissioners meeting on May 1.

Lee
