O'Reilly, Limbaugh have lost all credibility and other local radio news and views
We suffer the lunatic fringe bombastic buffoons on the radio spoon fed us by the near local monopoly Southern Broadcasting. I know, I used to be one. Advertisers should look elsewhere to spend their money these days. While Bill O'Reilly is not on our market thankfully, it is time to let Newstalk 1340 WGAU AM that Rush "Phony Soldiers" Limbaugh is a repugnant hate monger who cannot handle any dissent what so ever. I know this cigar chomping right wing talk radio comedian can draw big numbers with the easily persuaded, but it is time to find a different kind of entertainment for the airwaves in Athens, although Southern Broadcasting owner Paul Stone will never change his mind, even when the last local advertiser has flown the coop. This day too will come to pass.
I would urge more diversity in programming, announcers, and content on local radio stations. We are blessed to have some serious talent extremely underpaid in our market. The only place that the Drive By Truckers get played on the radio is as bumper music on 960 the Ref Sports Talk.
I get to do my semi-annual installment on WUOG 90.5 FM 1-3 pm Saturday, October 13 along with these other blasts from the past
Friday:
2pm-4pm: Jason Huff
4pm-6pm: Chris Lozo
6pm-8pm: Mark Blount
8-10pm: Andy Miller
10pm-12am: Anthony Hamlet
Saturday:
12am-3am: Jake Lamb
9am-11am: Lynn Medcalf and Jon Milavec
11am-1pm: Jenni Griffith
1pm-3pm: Dan Matthews
3pm-5pm: Jesse Nieminen
5pm-8pm: Arvell Poe and Spenser Simrill
8pm-9pm: Iris Levin
9pm-10pm: Beth Orcutt
10pm-12am: Phillip Buchan
Sunday:
12am-3am: Scott Points
8am-10am: Heather Conger
10pm-12pm: Dick Daneke
12pm-1pm: Erin White
1pm-3pm: Mitch Jones
3pm-5pm: Brian Silver
5pm-7pm: Anna Zinski
7pm-10pm: John Hammes
Dick Daneke always asks me to say hello to Matt Caesar, so hello Matt from Dick Daneke.
I will save my review of the Matt Caesars, Chris Brames, Jeff Dantzlers, Shana, Allen the great Tibbie-llama, Russell, and assorted other humans for some other day. But this past fortnight's near dental disaster of Canadian-Alabamian Mike Tingle this week illustrates how poorly compensated our local talent is around here.
I still sometimes do the WPPP-FM Hot 100.7 FM thing when sufficiently angered. You literally cannot pick it up in Watkinsville without a real good antenna.
