Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Welcome to the latest blog on the Oconee block by the name of Oconee Politics. Sound familiar? It should, but that is OK. Public relations professional and Watkinsville city council member Brian Brodrick, who has certainly spoon-fed me any number of posts over the years, finally took the plunge and created his own blog with the same name as mine. Now Lord knows I have accused various Republicans of various crimes against humanity over the years, but originality is not one of them.

Many people call me or this blog "Oconee Democrat" because of the URL reflects that, but I still refer to it as Oconee Politics, and to Brodrick's credit, he has subtitled his a "Voice of Moderation." Does that mean I am branded as a voice of immoderation? Perhaps in some people's opinion.

One of my latest photos from the batch on Spotted may actually be reprinted in the Community Window thanks to Jason Winders. Now will I get paid freelance like I used to for a quarter century (damn I'm old)? That remains to be seen. Somehow I kind of doubt it.

I wish him luck and was surprised to see that there are some four dozen bloggers from Watkinsville. I think that total is a little high as there are several multiple blogs from people such as yours truly.

Kate McDaniel created A Positive Vision from Oconee County after former chair of the Board of Commissioners Wendell Dawson created Another Voice from Oconee County. In the early days of this blog, I got all kinds of grief from a very certain lurker every time I referenced something in Dawson's blog.

The blogosphere will continue to grow and fester. All manner of people will have something to say and write. My topics continue to evolve around recreation, tourism, restaurants, art, politics, transportation, planning, government, people, art, and whatever tickles my fancy at any particular time.

No major incidents in Morgan Manor this Halloween. I am always amazed at the people who insist on driving their huge gas guzzlers spewing noxious exhaust fumes while their kids walk along running door to door. It seemed like less and less neighbors had their lights on and some flat out did not answer the door even though we saw them in the windows. Some kid of a skateboarding variety nearly did a face plant at the bottom of the hill on our intersection, but glad to say he recovered.

We ran out of candy early. Kids came knocking on my back door at 6:30 pm. We ran out of Butterfingers and Baby Ruths an hour after that. Had various calls from friends who wanted me to come out and party for the next couple of hours but this single father did not have a babysitter. Lowell watched his favorite show Kid Nation and went to bed after we stopped at a few neighboring subdivisions.

I guess I did copy you. I always thought of this as Oconee Democrat. Oops. Maybe I'll change it. I thought it had a familiar ring. Like I said, just learning.

How about Watkinsville Wit? Or Confessions of a Council Member? Or Oconee Oracle? Or I like the Voice of Moderation subhead. I think you are stuck with the URL but I could be wrong.
