Wanna be in a Christmas parade Saturday?

The Oconee County Democratic Committee has once again entered the Watkinsville Christmas Parade and needs people to help them march 10 am - 12 noon Saturday, December 1 on Barnett Shoals Road in Watkinsville to hand out Christmas cards to the large gathered masses for them to go mail them to deserving Veterans back from Iraq and Afghanistan in Augusta and elsewhere stateside.

Congressional candidate and Iraqi war veteran Bobby Saxon helped a great deal with this effort, and I would sincerely invite all interested people from Jackson and Oglethorpe counties (and anywhere else for that matter) to drive over Saturday morning and help out in our effort.

Our own Rita Bennett is trying to get an accurate head count as to those who will or will not be participating in this event. Please try to let her know via either the listserv or an email or even a comment here if you cannot reply otherwise.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
