We caught the final field goal in the Bulldogs win today

UGA field goal kicker Brandon Coutu nailed a long field goal toward the end of the Georgia Bulldogs game today with the Kentucky Wildcats. I was sitting with a physically challenged friend of mine in the handicap access area. My friend Steve said "you guys should move over toward the center for the field goal attempt" and we did.

The kick was true, bounced right in my arms, I held it aloft and gave it to my son to throw back, which he did with a tight spiral. We had also caught one during the halftime that Coutu kicked from about the 50 yard line in the prelude to the second half.

Many fans were throwing the ball back up further in the stands when the Wildcats warmed in the the start of the second half. We decided that it would be better sportsmanship to throw it back. I do not know if I had ever held a special kicking football before. It felt good.

Lowell was very well behaved at the Georgia football game and thanks to all those who work to make the football season come off without a hitch around here, including all the personnel at Sanford Stadium, the lady who switched our tickets for the handicap section, my friend Steve for making it down to Tate Center in time for the kickoff, the people from Kentucky and may they beat Tennessee next week.

Boy I was pulling for Vanderbilt to beat the Volunteers but a field goal went slightly to the right at the end of that game. But it is always great to get between the Hedges.
Congratulation to my
My old boss Jeff Wallace and the SEC champion Lady Dawgs Women's tennis team that was honored at halftime. It takes a nation of Bulldogs to raise another SEC championship banner. Go Dawgs! Good job coach Richt. Knowshawn Moreno for Heisman.

Vernon Jones for Senate banner flew over head today in an airplane circling the stadium. No sign of Saxby, Rand Knight, Josh Lanier or Dale Cardwell. Moe's restaurant food was for sale in the stadium, which was a welcome innovation. May we stomp Georgia Tech next week. Larry Munson was presented a special award and a letterman's jacket by Athletic Director Damon Evans of Oconee County.

Enough people give the UGA folks grief for every little traffic jam in the letters to the editor of our monopoly daily newspaper, it's about time somebody says good job to all the people in the red vests and silver jackets to the people selling food and cleaning up the mountain of trash left by 98,000 people because there are always folks outside and inside the stadium who are not counted on the official attendance estimates.

Thanks for the strategically positioned port-a-potties in the peripheries of the stadium area. The town and area have a symbiotic relation to game day and it does rake in thousands of dollars to the local economies, and not just Clarke and Oconee counties. We ate at the new Knuckleheads after the game and there were not that many people in there as we sweated out the narrow Vanderbilt loss. But traffic and parking were not a hassle at all.

Thanks to Xavier of Hot 100.7 for letting us park on his lawn. Thanks to Jon Bird for giving us his number at the last second. Thanks to the corn hole players and the Led Zeppelin playing cover band for getting out of our way on the way to where we parked. Thanks to the many seniors in every sport for giving four years of their lives to entertain us so well.

Thanks to the folks behind the scene in the Athletic Association for keeping the kids in school. Thanks to all the people who buy tickets to go to the games to give the opponents the big pay days. Thanks to the people who sell and give away tickets through the fence at the last second. Thanks to the police who keep the traffic running smoothly. Thanks to the people for the non-alcoholic areas of the tailgating celebrations. Thanks to my son for putting up with his old man dragging him to so many dadgum Georgia games.

Thanks to the Lady Dawgs women soccer team for beating Alabama A&M 8-1 and taking on Duke Sunday at 1:30 pm in the round of 32 of the women's NCAA soccer tournament here in Athens on Milledge Avenue in the Turner Sports Complex. Sorry they had to lose to Duke 1-nil in the 72nd minute.
