Melvin Davis digs his own political grave one secret shovel at a time

Oconee County, Georgia residents are finally starting to learn about the
repeated pattern secret meetings and decisions about the future of their
increasingly corrupt sewage as well. Lee Becker deserves a medal for
having the mettle to battle with the Oconee County Board of
Commissioners' secrecy armed only with Open Records requests. He has
exposed numerous clandestine gatherings and been downright stonewalled
when it comes to the latest request for records surrounding the bidding
process for our sewer treatment. Chairman Davis continues to expedite
his own political obituary by obscuring Oconee County dealings in
various governmental matters. Sunshine shall bring us spring and a new
chairman for the Board of Commissioners soon, given governmental
transparency to make the cockroaches of corruption scatter.

The following was sent to me by Lee Becker and I insist you check out
his blog and urge him to run for the BOC in at least a write-in basis in
2008.

Dear Friends,

The County confirmed its plans to keep citizens in the dark about the
second round of bids on the upgrade of Rocky Branch sewage treatment
plant last week by denying officially my Open Records Request for access
to the bids and the review documents.

The response of bidders to the second Request for Proposal is important
because the second RFP asks bidders to submit a base and an alternate
design. I have spoken with an expert on sewage plant designs who has
assured me that the difference is not a trivial one.

The decision by the County administration--under the control of Chairman
Melvin Davis--guarantees that we will never know which of the nine
bidders was proposing to use a technology to treat the water to the
highest quality at the lowest price.

This is a County administration that clearly prefers to make important
decisions that affect the public behind closed doors.

For details, go to my blog at

http://www.oconeecountyobservations.blogspot.com/.

More than likely, the agenda for the BOC meeting of 1/29 will contain a
recommendation regarding these bids.

Plan to attend that meeting . And let the Commissioners know in advance
how you feel about this latest effort to keep us in the dark. Just tell
them to open up the process.

Here are the names and addresses:

Melvin Davis, (Chairman), mdavis@oconee.ga.us
Margaret Hale, margarethale@oconee.ga.us and marghale@aol.com
Chuck Horton, chorton@oconee.ga.us
Jim Luke, jluke@oconee.ga.us
Don Norris, dnorris@oconee.ga.us.

Thanks

Lee
