Beer and wine will see its time before the Oconee County Board of Commissioners

I had the numbers wrong but the equation right as far as guessing where the various members of the Oconee County Board of Commissioners would vote in whether to allow restaurants outside of the municipalities the ability to pour beer and wine with meals. The standard calculus now goes with Horton and Hale voting no and Luke and Norris voting yes and Chairman Davis casting a tie breaking vote in the affirmative allowing restaurants to pour beer and wine with meals. I would not cast their votes in stone exactly yet, but we are supposed to see in April with an actual vote after the requisite public hearing and tweaking of the ordinance. I am somewhat surprised that the county-wide ordinance is less restrictive than the one working well in Watkinsville. There will be rampant rumor mongering and name calling between now and April. I will do my best to separate the fact from fiction from now until then.

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
