Key Rocky Branch Vote Tuesday Night
Please support Lee Becker and his battle for our water safety future with various factions of the Oconee County Board of Commissioners. Please read the following email and consider contacting the Commissioners to let them know of your feelings about the future of Barber Creek before Tuesday evening.
That Committee has recommended that HSF Engineering of Snellville be awarded the contract for the upgrade. The Committee also recommended an alternate design, rather than the design used at the Countys only other sewage plant on Calls Creek.
The design of the plant is crucial, for it determines the quality of the water that will be released from the plant and discharged into Barber Creek. It also determines how much capacity the County has to store water when Barber Creek is flooded.
Despite all the work we have done, Public Works Director Emil Beshara on Friday argued that the County has made a mistake in requiring the bidders to employ membrane filtration and that there is no "scientific" evidence that putting 1 million gallons per day of water into a flooded creek is a bad thing!
For more detail on the recommended bid and on Beshara's view of public policy and science, go to my blog at http://www.oconeecountyobservations.blogspot.com/.
Please try to attend the meeting on Tuesday night. It starts at 7 p.m. at the Courthouse.
If you cannot attend, please send a note to the Commissioners telling them two things:
1. You want Rocky Branch to produce water at least as good as the water coming out of the plant at Calls Creek.
2. You want the County to hold water from Rocky Branch when Barber Creek is flooded.
Here are the addresses:
