Toney for BOE

My name is Chuck Toney, and I am running for Board of Education Post 4.You are receiving this e-mail because mutual friends who are supporting my candidacy have shared their lists with me.  I am writing to ask for your vote (if you haven't already voted).

My wife, Laura, and I moved here in the summer of 2001.  Laura teaches at Malcom Bridge Elementary; Isaac, our oldest son, will start at North Oconee High School this fall, and John and Will will be in seventh grade at Malcom Bridge Middle.

My parents taught me that I had an obligation to serve the community, and I have done that in many ways since we moved here.  I just completed a term as president of the Oconee Rotary Club and am on the board of the Chamber of Commerce.  I have volunteered with Relay for Life and have coached youth sports at least twice a year.  More to the point, I have been deeply involved in the schools.  I served on the MBES School Council and I am the PA announcer for North Oconee High School.

In 2007, I served on the school system redistricting committee, where I demonstrated the ability to make the kinds of tough decisions that a board member will have to make.  I have good friends who were not happy with some of the decisions we made, but I always tried to determine what was best for the system as a whole.  I am proud of the work we did.

There are three issues that have been on my mind.  First is maintaining the quality of the education our students receive as enrollment increases.  Second is keeping the most current technology in the classroom. And third is hiring a proven, visionary leader as Oconee County's next superintendent.

I would be honored to have your vote.
