Chairman Davis garners write-in opposition in Christian cement truck driver Tom Leach
Self-described "Christian" cement truck driver and write in candidate Tom Leach takes on Melvin Davis in the last gasp protest against pouring beer and wine in restaurants in unincorporated Oconee County. Maybe someone should tell Mr. Leach that no restaurants outside of Watkinsville have applied for the evil spirits to be poured. Maybe Satan told the Church lady who attends Leach's church. The following is borrowed from the Oconee Enterprise, and the quote at the end of the story is really bizarre and shows that this candidate might not be the sharpest tool in the shed:

Tom Leach has announced that he will oppose Melvin Davis as a write-in candidate for county commission chairman during the November general election.
“I am a Christian man,” said Leach, and first and foremost I think Melvin sold us out when he broke the tie on liquor by the drink. I want to give the voters a choice.”
Leach drives a concrete truck. He is the father of four children and has lived in Oconee County most of his adult life.
As a write-in candidate, Leach is required only to notify the Board of Elections and place an ad in the legal organ, The Oconee Enterprise. He is not required to gather names on a petition since he will not be listed on the ballot.
To cast a voter for a write-in candidate on an electronic ballot, voters must select the write-in option and then must type in his name exactly as listed on his petitions.
“I will make the chairman’s job a part-time job,” he said. “We have department heads, and they should be allowed to do their jobs. I will also see about raising pay for our law enforcement. We are losing good people.”
Leach promised that he would work to repeal the pouring ordinance enacted last spring,
“If you can’t sell your food unless the customer is drunk, then the food is not any good,” he said.
