Summary of Obama Teams Oconee Mtg. 9/9/08

  • This is an update of the evolution of the Oconee County, Georgia work for the campaign for Barack Obama for President. Even though our period of work with a national campaign staffer may be over, it is time for the local folks to take command and make him win in Georgia. You can do a lot with a little. Bring a cell phone to the Sanctuary at Second and Barnett Shoals Road on every Tuesday and Thursday. Go get some yard signs in Athens or Lexington. Register voters this weekend at Krimson Kafe. Ask people in your neighborhood if they are registered to vote. Explain to people why you feel passionate about Barack Obama and how absurd the attacks of the right are.


Thanks to Kathleen & Lawrence who graciously allow GA For Change gatherings in The Sanctuary where we've met since July and where we met last night.  Also thanks to Tiffany Kingery for her help over the past 6 weeks.  We are sad to say "bye" to Tiffany, and we applaud her and the rest of the Obama field staffers as they move their operation into the critical states that will determine the election.  Meanwhile, the Georgia For Change campaign remains vigorously alive here in Oconee County (and, we trust, throughout the State) as attested by the attached Minutes of our meeting last night.  Thanks, Elaine, for taking minutes.  Only a few of the highlights are cited below.  Open the attachment for details.
 
Meeting highlights:
- Jane & JP Crisan, Zynita Elder, Barbara Teskey, Erika Ferrari-Chumbley, and Chanda Hubert joined our Oconee Teams. Welcome!
- JP not only volunteered to organize & host a website for our Oconee Teams, it's already posted on the web!!!  Click on this link http://www.obama.great-usa.com/ and check it out!  Among the many other tasks we can complete on this site, JP has volunteered to post our Volunteer Folder, reproduce it, and to bring 20 copies of it to our meeting next Tues.
- Phone bank at the Sanctuary at 7pm every Tues. and Thurs. Bring your cell or come pick up a call list and call from your favorite location. Questions? Ask Barb.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. I live a far from perfect life myself but long ago and far away I learned how and when not to drink. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
