I apologize for the short notice, but hopefully you've seen some of the press coverage concerning the SPLOST renewal that the county is considering.   The actual vote on the SPLOST by the citizens of Oconee County will come in March 2009, but the allocation of the revenue generated from the six-year Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax will be decided now by the Board of Commissioners.

Below is the agenda for tonight's BOC meeting.  There are several items on the agenda of long-term impact in addition to the SPLOST (waste water treatment, Daniells Bridge Road concept plan, ambulance service).

If you haven't followed the SPLOST issue very closely, I encourage you to take a moment to review the following links.  Comparatively little of the SPLOST revenue will be used for "special purpose" but instead will be used for payment of debt and other standard services.

As usual, read Lee Becker's blog for detailed analysis of this issue:

Video of SPLOST discussions are available at www.vimeo.com/OconeeCounty.  It is particularly worth viewing Russ Page's presentation.

Lastly, be sure to read yesterdays ABH article on this issue:

If you feel inspired to contact the BOC, here are their email addresses:

Chuck Horton: chorton@oconee.ga.us
Jim Luke: jluke@oconee.ga.us
Don Norris: dnorris@oconee.ga.us

Again, sorry for the late notice.

Many thanks,
Tony Glenn
