Dear Dan,
This is HUGE. If you and other Georgia progressives can spread the word and get out the vote for Jim Martin this Tuesday, it could mean erasing one of the biggest barriers to change for President-elect Obama and the Democratic majority: the Senate filibuster.
If Democrat Jim Martin can defeat Sen. Saxby Chambliss in Tuesday's runoff election, the Democrats could have a filibuster-proof 60 votes in the U.S. Senate. And that would be a critical protection against Republicans' efforts to subvert and block the change Americans so overwhelmingly voted for on November 4. (Not to mention that Saxby Chambliss is about as far to the right as they come in the U.S. Senate and this could be a great opportunity to elect a senator who represents YOUR values.)
Please make sure to VOTE for Jim Martin on or before Tuesday, December 2. Make sure all your friends, family and progressive-minded Georgians do the same.
Here is a flyer you can download to distribute and post. Put it up on bulletin boards. Print out stacks and distribute them in Democratic-leaning communities in which we need high turnout.

It's been a very long election cycle, but Georgia voters still have a chance to make a crucial impact on the direction of our country over the next few years. Do not waste this chance. You have one week. Please do everything you can to make a difference.

- In 2006 was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor, and was one of the few candidates around the country to raise the looming crisis in home foreclosures
- Served as a legal aid lawyer in Atlanta representing underserved clients in need of a strong advocate
- Supports progressive policies, including:
- Strong consumer protection laws to protect hard-working Americans from powerful special interests, such as credit card companies, insurance companies, banks, and oil companies
- Accessible and affordable health care for all Americans
- Federal funding for early childhood education and for excellence in our public schools
- A federal role in negotiating lower prescription drug costs for seniors
SAXBY CHAMBLISS (R)
- Has a 100% rating by the radical Religious Right Family Research Council
- Has supported every one of President Bush's judicial nominees, voting 100% of the time for controversial nominees that threatened to undermine civil rights protections
- Opposed reauthorization and expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program
- Filibustered hate crimes legislation that was overwhelmingly supported by the civil rights community as well as by religious and law enforcement organizations
- Has consistently been given an "F" by the NAACP for his voting record in Congress
Use these points to make the case. Please do all you can to get out the vote for Jim Martin, candidate for U.S. Senate.
