Oconee County Democratic Committee Meeting
January 8, 2009
Oconee County Government Annex, Watkinsville, Georgia
Committee members present: Jonathan Veit (5-3) Chair; Rita Bennett (3-2) Secretary; Violet Dawe(1-1) Treasurer; Dan Matthews (2-2); Sarajane Love (2-3); Herb West (5-1); Myrna Adams West (5-2); Robert Wyatt(6-1); Diana Jeffreys (6-2); Pat Adams (6-3).
Committee members absent (excused): Ann Stoneburner (1-3) Vice Chair; Tony Glenn (1-2); Becky Vaughn(5-3).
Others: Erika Ferrari, Liz Goodroe, Terry Holley, David Jarrett, Carl McGrath.
Committee members absent (unexcused): Linda Elkins (3-1); Bill Yarbrough (4-2).
Jonathan called the meeting to order at 7:30PM.
Minutes: The minutes from the December 4 meeting were approved unanimously after a motion by Dan Matthews and second by Pat Adams.
Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Violet Dawe reported the balance in the account was $XXXX.XX. An expense of $235.00 was paid for ads in the Oconee Enterprise and The Leader and for the campaign of Jim Martin.
Yard Sale Proceeds: Last month a decision was made to split $300 from the Yard Sale half-and-half to the North Georgia Food Bank and a local no-kill shelter. Rita decided to give the remaining $150 to the Spay and Neuter Clinic in Oconee County.
Community Service:
Adopt a Road would be scheduled on January 10, 2009.
MLK Day: Carl McGrath discussed the cleanup at the Maple Circle neighborhood in Greene County.
Fundraising Opportunities:
Bike Ride: We are aiming for sometime in the Spring of 2009 for the bike ride.
Social: We are aiming for some kind of social event in 2009.
Public Awareness:
Book Group: The next book group discussion will be on January15, 2009 and will be 1491.
Sunday Series: There was some discussion about the series for 2009. There would be no Sunday Series in January.
New Business: Jonathan discussed some of his goals for the upcoming year including getting good candidates to run for local offices, maintaining a high profile in the community, and increasing the membership in the party.
Terry Holley, 10th District Chair, discussed some of the state party issues.
Blue Hats: There will be no meeting the month of January.
Next Meeting: February 5, 2009. The meeting will begin at 7:30 PM with socializing at 7PM at the Government Annex.
